"My painting has evolved toward abstraction, as I become more focused on the use of color, and on achieving a strong and balanced composition. Working in an abstract format allows me to develop a painting without preconceptions as to color or form. Playing with the developing composition without overthinking the process lets me be more open to new directions as they present themselves.
It is my objective to paint intuitively, to be guided by the process. I am seeking to achieve a direct response to the developing image on the canvas from the brush in my hand, without that response being controlled by thought process."

"I, James Norton, have been actively shooting for the past four years, and recreationally shooting since I was a kid. The majority of my time is dominated by outdoor adventure, whether it be hiking, backpacking, climbing, trail running, cycling, or travelling overland expedition-style. I photograph landscapes and wildlife in a concise, artistically tasteful manner which will not only give an accurate portrayal of geography and light, but also the amazing sense of energy that I experience when working with my subjects. When I shoot people, I try to portray the individual's attributes that make them unique and I'm always on the lookout for those moments when the soul reveals itself, shining through the scene."
